Training:

Christian Becker studied medicine at the Freie Universität Berlin and the University of California in San Francisco. He graduated in 1995 and undertook his training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Berlin where he qualified in 2003. From 1998-2000 and 2003-2005 Christian was a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He then came to Oxford as a NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer and RCOG Subspecialty Trainee in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery. In 2009, Dr Becker was appointed Senior Clinical Fellow at the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Oxford and Consultant Gynaecologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital. In 2013 became Associate Professor at the University of Oxford.

Career Activity:

Professor Becker has 12 years’ experience in reproductive medicine and surgery. He worked for many years at the Oxford Fertility Unit and has extensive experience in fertility management. His clinical work and research focus on endometriosis and fertility preservation. He is the Clinical Lead for the BSGE Endometriosis CaRe Centre in Oxford and current Chair of the ESHRE Guideline Development Group for Endometriosis. He is the local or national principal or co-investigator for multiple clinical and research studies into endometriosis, uterine fibroids and ovarian tissue cryopreservation.

 

Teaching activity:

Teaching of young professionals and students plays a central role in Professor Becker’s job. He is the Educational Supervisor for the RCOG Subspecialty Trainees in Reproductive Medicine in Oxford and organises and teaches on the Specials Skills Module in Reproductive Medicine of the University of Oxford. He interviews candidates and actively teaches on the MSc Course for Clinical Embryology and gives regular lectures and tutorials to undergraduate and medical students at the University of Oxford. Professor Becker is the Co-Director of the Endometriosis CaRe Centre and as such supervises an active group of postdoctoral fellows, DPhil students, and research nurses.

Awards and merits:

Professor Becker has received numerous awards and prizes in his career. He has secured and holds multiple grants from local, national and international funding bodies and industry.
